The Dream, Our Vision, Our Reality

It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally here. Our very first Ickle Pickle Prints blog, to go with our new, shiny website.  So what better place to start than to tell you a bit about the face behind the business, how this all came about and where we are going from here….  The Dream, Our Vision, Our Reality!

The idea for Ickle Pickle Prints was started after one very tiring day, with a new baby in the house, a very sleepy Daddy and the dreaded thought that one day (in the very near future… 9 months to be exact), I would have to return to the day job.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate my job.  In fact, I loved my job as a Support Worker.  However, having just had a baby and realising how fast she was growing, day-by-day, the thought of missing out on this filled me with sadness and dread.  So, with the determination to make a change and do something about it, I set out to find something I felt equally passionate about and could work around my young family.

Fast forward 3 years and here I am.  Sat at home with baby number two (okay, he’s 15 months old – but still my baby!), working from home on my own business, doing things my way, my hours, the way I want to.  Now, I made that sound really easy, like something that just magically happened for me.  Right? Well no, that’s not how it went.  So, to cut a long story short, I spent three years changing jobs to work less hours, working the business in the evenings (the very early hours of the evening) around the children, and learning how to set-up and run a business from scratch.

I can honestly say I have never worked so hard in my life, and there have been times when I have wanted to give it all up.  But, my vision for this business and what it could mean to me and my family, in terms of flexible working and time together, has kept me going.  So, this year, when I was due to return to the day job after having baby number two, I took a leap of faith and decided not to return.  I needed to do this for me, for my family, and for the business.  It was a risk and very scary but life is for living and sometimes that means just going for it.

There are many people who have helped make this dream a reality, not least my amazingly supportive Fiancee, family and friends who have supported and believed in me every step of the way, and the amazing ladies over at The Keepsake Company.  However, this most certainly wouldn’t have been possible without you guys.  I feel like I have some of the best customers EVER!  I feel like some of you have become friends, I have watched your children grow and started to meet new arrivals to your growing families along the way.

I feel so privileged when people choose me to make such important pieces.  Every item of jewellery I make is designed and lovingly crafted, as though it were my own.  I love all the different ranges we do, but my passion is for the hand-made items and I love nothing more than creating Handmade Jewellery personalised with miniaturised prints from your little ones.

I understand how important this jewellery is, what it represents as we watch our children grow and how it feels to keep a little bit of them close, when it’s time to let them go and explore the big wide world.  So, a massive THANK YOU to all of you.  You have helped me achieve my dreams, we are by no means there yet and have a long way to go.  But, we have started this journey and we are making it happen.

I am very excited for the future – plans to grow the business further, grow a team of Ickle Pickle helpers and continue creating gorgeous keepsakes for you and your loved ones.  I look forward to sharing this journey with you all and getting to know more of you along the way…..
